Mexican history is both very long and interesting. During 300 BC some indigenous people came to the area known now as Mexico and over the coming years tribes fought for power and supremacy. There were the Mayans who were the best innovators in the field of math and science. They built large number of very intricate cities.
During 1400s another tribal group called Aztecan or Mexicans took the control of the area and further built the country. At that time the capital was Tenochtitlan which is still known as Mexico City. The Aztecs gave thousands of human sacrifices on special occasions as was their belief that if this was not done then the earth would cease to exist. So when the Spanish troops arrived in 1519, the weary indigenous people joined hands with them to defeat the Aztecs and totally gained the control over the country.
With their things and arms, the Spanish troops also brought with them diseases from their country. This affected many of the people in Mexico because of the infection and the remaining people were made slaves. Thus, it was the entire Spanish colonialism in the whole of Mexico and this remained so for a long time.
In 1821, however, Mexico was declared an independent nation in the town of Dolores. September 16th, 1821 is regarded as the Independence Day in the history of Mexico. Mexico history is very important to understand the city and if known it will enhance your trip excitement for sure.
